Student Awards
A panel of independent referees will review all abstracts submitted by Student Award/Young Investigator nominees.

Young Investigator Award The highest scoring abstracts from those Young Investigators who have nominated to give an oral presentation will be selected to present in the Young Investigator Award Session. The best presentation in this session will receive the AAS Young Investigator Award.

To be eligible for this award candidates must be a financial member of the AAS by the time of application andnot more than 2 years beyond the award of a doctoral degree (PhD, MD) or fellowship (FRACP).

AAS Student Awards There will be two awards - one for the best Basic or Clinical poster and one award for the best oral presentation from either the YIA session or any other oral session.

To be eligible for the Student Awards, you must be a financial student member (Honours/Masters/PhD student) of the AAS.

The Student/Early Career BioAssayLINK Award is also offered, for a presentation (oral or poster) that has content that shows the most potential for commercial application at some point in the future which is sponsored by BioAssayLINK (www.bioassaylink.com)

To be eligible for this award candidates must be a financial member of the AAS by the time of application and not more than 2 years beyond the award of a doctoral degree (PhD, MD) or fellowship (FRACP).

For all of the above awards you MUST be a financial member of the Society at the time of applying.

Please indicate on the Presenting Author Form if you would like to be considered for any of the above awards.

Awards will be announced at the Annual Dinner.

ABSTRACT DEADLINE AUGUST 14

All those who wish to present oral or poster communications are invited to submit abstracts. Deadline: midnight Friday August 14, 2009. It is anticipated that the final program and notifications of presentation style will occur on September 14, 2009.

You must submit your abstract via the Internet (www.meetingsfirst.com.au).

Presenting Author Form
The presenting author form is self-explanatory and is part of the internet abstract submission process. Information from this form is utilised to generate the program, so please complete carefully. Presenting authors who have not registered to attend and paid by September 18 will be assumed to have withdrawn their abstract.

Each presenting author must log in with their unique PIN - either as advised by Meetings First or generated online. All AAS members currently have a PIN, which is available from Meetings First if unknown. If you do not have a PIN or are unsure of what your PIN is please select create PIN and follow the prompts. Do not use another person's PIN or let another person use your PIN because you will delete their abstract or your own abstract and all information from the database.

Abstract acknowledgement

Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged with an automated response at the time of submission. If you do not receive a second email within 7 days of abstract submission, please contact Meetings First.

Oral Presentations
Oral presentations will be allowed 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions.

Poster Presentations
Fabric covered poster boards will measure 1800mm high x 1200mm wide. The most appropriate poster size is 1m x 1m.

Abstract format

Page size must be set to A4

  • As abstracts must fit within a print area of 16.5 cm wide by 11.0 cm high, margins should be set to
    • Top = 2.0 cm
    • Bottom = 16.7 cm
    • Left = 2.25 cm
    • Right = 2.25 cm
  • Do not apply paragraph indents
  • Single line spacing must be used throughout
  • Ensure all lines, tables and figures fit within the margins
  • Single-spaced, justified typing only
  • 10pt Arial font
  • Title in capitals and bold
  • One line between title and name/ affiliations
  • Names in upper and lower case, with family name followed by initials (eg Smith AB, Brown CD)
  • Affiliations commence on a new line, in italics (eg University of Melbourne, Victoria)
  • Underline the presenting author
  • One line between affiliations and body of abstract
